Munich Security Index 2025

Since 2021, the Munich Security Index, developed in partnership between Kekst CNC and the Munich Security Conference, has provided valuable insights into global risk perceptions. In its latest edition, the MSI analyzed responses from 11,000 individuals to identify the leading threats across the G7 and BICS nations.

In today’s volatile geopolitical climate, the MSI reveals a complex tapestry of public opinion, with notable contrasts in optimism between the G7 and BICS countries, emphasizing the need for tailored communication strategies. Environmental issues, particularly climate change and extreme weather, continue to dominate global concerns, while shifting perceptions of China and the United States add further complexity.

The 2025 MSI highlights five themes crucial for businesses navigating global dynamics. These insights offer a roadmap for companies operating across markets and jurisdictions, helping them balance and adapt to an evolving landscape.

In a time of uncertainty about geopolitics, public health, and the strength of our institutions that is unprecedented in recent memory, data shows a growing concern about risk: 27 of the 31 risks covered in the Munich Security Index have seen an overall increase in threat perception since February/March of 2021. Based on a global survey of 12,000 people, the Munich Security Index’s in-depth view of G7 and BRICS nations evidences escalating worries on various issues that are co-occurring around the world, including climate change, extreme weather events, cyberattacks, and food shortages and mass migration as a result of global catastrophe.
